Dear Students,

Are you a dancer? Do you wish to study dance and make a career out of it? Then you are at the right School Dr. D. Y. Patil School of Liberal Arts.

Dance is a global art form, and most countries and cultures have their own traditions. By studying here, you’ll adopt elements of style and technique and become a more versatile, creative, and original dancer and choreographer. You can specialize in various dance forms like Kathak Bharat Natyam, Nritya yoga, and Choreography or continue as a performing artist. And teaching you these various art forms will be famous exponents who are known across the country. As for the courses, they will teach you about the origin, culture, and history of the dance form. For example, in the regular Bharatnatyam degree Programme is steeped in rich cultural heritage. It is based on the age-old Natya shastra, Bharat Muni’s Natya Shastra, and the devadasi system which was practiced 2000 years ago. Likewise, the Nritya Yoga course is patented and it is for the first time will be taught globally through this university. Also, we are offering for the first time a university-level course based on the dancer’s thesis. It will be a combination of the kinetics of Bharat Natyam and the Ashtanga yoga sutra by saint Patanjali.

Most dance programs are designed to improve your technique and performance. They’ll also encourage you to get creative with teaching and choreography and help you understand the science and theory behind the movement. You’ll explore a range of dance styles and consider how they’ve been influenced by historical and cultural forces. This program will help in physical, mental, and spiritual well-being through the technique of Bharatnatyam and the aesthetics of the Patanjali yoga sutra. All the other programs are well researched and planned to suit the needs of the students.

With a degree in dance, you can work in theaters both in your home country and abroad, or you can teach dance to children and adults, or perhaps work with dance therapy. Dance programs allow students to study their passion and hone their craft. It’s a great course for students looking to break into the field of performing arts.

You will work on your dance every day, learn about the body in movement, about dance as an art form and craft, and about dance’s interplay with music. You will have courses on the history of dance, cultural history, analysis, aesthetics, and critique, all depending on where you choose to study

Through class experience, guest lecturers, instructor collaboration, and cultural exchange we strive to instill an intimate knowledge of dance, culture, art, and the connections among them. Ultimately our students learn to make connections by themselves between lived experience and dance technique as well as between their own cultural knowledge and the changing world around them.

So, all the best to the students of the Class of 2022. One morning, you will wake to find this moment fifty years in the rearview mirror. My hope for you is that the intervening decades are filled with friendship and love, and a lifetime of purpose that the arc of your achievements carries you toward joy and that the meaning of your life becomes clear to you. In the meantime, give to this wonderful place at least as much as you expect to get out of it

All the best,

Dr. (Mrs.) Bhagyashree P. Patil
